New machine: Colorado

21/May/2019

The "Colorado" from Canon arrives at WENZEL. With this printing press, we can now produce faster, more versatile and, above all, with higher quality.

Dear readers,

the history of WENZEL shows that we are constantly evolving in terms of technology and remain curious about innovations. Not every hype is worth it, but this time we are certain that the investment is worth it; namely in the "Colorado" from Canon.

Industrial printing speed

We don't really need to say much about the printing speed. Because the video we made (see below) speaks for itself. Productivity during the printing process increases enormously thanks to the new UV gel technology (more on gel-like ink below), which means we can produce a larger order quantity in a shorter throughput time. The advantage for our customers is obvious: orders with a tight time window can be realized more easily.

Versatile printing machine

Another major advantage is that we can cover a wide range of materials with the new machine, which makes us more flexible, especially when it comes to the express orders mentioned above. Be it a roll-upa screena adhesive film or a posterWe can print on all these materials with the new machine. Other machines are generally not as versatile and are sometimes limited to one material, e.g. paper. But with the Colorado it's different (see the end of the video, the prints are all on different materials). Another point in terms of versatility: the machine provides a glossy or matt print image. What we normally control via the material (e.g. placing glossy or semi-gloss poster paper in the machine), the Colorado will do for us in future.

No "merging" of the printing inks

The third advantage in addition to speed and versatility is the print quality. With conventional machines, it is quite common for neighboring ink droplets to flow into one another. Even immediate drying processes cannot prevent this 100 percent. Fortunately, this is different with the Colorado. The ink is applied to the print medium in gel form, preventing coalescence. The drying process then starts immediately, so that there are no color "inconsistencies". All color pigments are cleanly separated and droplet expansion is stopped immediately.
