Hot foil stamping in gold and silver
The most beautiful form of finishing for hardcover bindings is hot foil stamping. It is available in gold and silver, but there are a few things to bear in mind.
Dear readers,
Today we take a look at the noblest of all finishes in the field of digital printing up to DIN A3 format: hot foil stamping hot foil stamping. We offer this finishing process (for technical reasons only) for hardcover binding (see photos to click through in this article). This type of embossing is intended for special printed matter, such as theses, dissertations, photo books for special occasions, etc. If you want that certain touch, that certain something as a finish that sets your printed matter apart from others, hot foil stamping is the best choice.
Gold or silver hot foil stamping
After the hardcover binding (here a video of the hardcover binding) is completed, we turn our attention to the hot foil stamping. The colors gold or silver and two font sizes are available. In the first step, we clamp the clichés for the top line (the printing stamps, so to speak) in a holder. Then we start the first embossing.
Hot foil stamping: Line by line
The first line, which must not be too wide in terms of the number of characters, is placed on the hardcover binding (see Video of hot foil stamping). We press the foil into the cover at approx. 100 degrees for about 3-4 seconds, remove the excess foil, done. Then the next line follows, if necessary: the clichés are removed from the holder, the new clichés are clamped in, and so on.
Hot foil stamping takes a lot of time
In the video of hot foil stamping it can be seen that the creation of the cliché is very time-consuming, as each letter has to be transferred individually from the stock into the holder and then screwed into place. For the following text block, the previous letters have to be removed and the new ones inserted. Therefore, the costs per line (as of 06/2018) are 8 euros + VAT plus set-up costs (depending on the scope). These 8 euros are comparatively cheap for the beautiful, visually very appealing result on the one hand, and for the time investment that hot foil stamping entails on the other.
