Scan photo collection behind glass

05/Dec/2017

Scanning photos is as much a part of WENZEL as the Amen in church. What is new, however, are photo collections that come to us behind glass and in frames. We used to photograph such works. With our Hornet, this is faster, better and, above all, more gentle (see photos to browse through in this article). Why?

Scan photos: Even behind glass and in frames - faster than before

Before WENZEL bought the Hornet, we were forced to photograph framed photo collections, paintings, etc. For this purpose, we built some adventurous constructions in the yard. To do this, we set up some adventurous constructions in the yard to reproduce the scan material. A color wedge with 100% red, for example, served as a color reference for post-processing by our graphic designers. All this cost a lot of time and therefore a lot of money for the customer. Scanning photos is now much faster with the Hornet: The collection (provided by our colleagues at ReproRuppert) - even behind glass and in a frame - simply place it on the scanning table, align it and you're ready to go. Scanning photos is faster than ever before.

Scanning photos: better than ever before

Speed is one thing, quality is another. As described above, before the Hornet era, for example, we leaned paintings against the wall in the courtyard and "pointed" the camera at them. This created (at least) two problems: firstly, we couldn't be sure that we were holding the camera at the correct angle to avoid distortion. Secondly, we were not immune to reflections. Sunlight, reflections - these were all problems that we had to contend with. Of course, they could be solved somehow, but it was usually at the expense of quality and time. Today, however, the Hornet enables us to digitize photos and photo collections in outstanding quality, and even glass plates placed in front of it don't hold us back. The cleverly placed lighting enables completely reflection-free digitization in an appealing resolution. Photos scan better than ever before.

Scan photos: more gently than ever before.

Thirdly, we can treat the works that customers hand over to us more carefully than ever before. This applies not only to photo collections that we have to scan, but also to expensive paintings in equally expensive frames. Usually, the owner is reluctant to put something like this in an uncovered courtyard, even if blankets or cardboard ensure that there are no scratches (this procedure was of course always agreed at the time, but still not ideal). With the Hornet, everything is different: we place the painting or, in this case, the photo collection on the fine leather cover, scan for a few seconds and that's it. Scanning photos is gentler than ever before.

If you have a painting, a photo collection or similar that you would like us to digitize for you, please contact us at any time.
